There's a huge difference between affordable housing and subsidized housing, and if the zeitgeist is to be believed they are the same thing. Just because a person can't afford something doesn't mean you pretend that person can afford it. They can't afford it. Neither can most people.

You only need a google to see all the crumby apartments with astronomical prices next to them. This isn't a different issue than food or rent, you don't need to pretend it is. Everyone needs a place to sleep and everyone needs food. You pay for them accordingly or society collapses.

When you start talking about the government building "affordable housing," you are talking about the government buying land and building homes, then renting them out at a subsidized price or letting people live there for free.

Put aside the fact that 75% of the US landmass is empty. You could put every homeless person on earth out in Nebraska and they could all have a house the size of a football field. No, the problem is putting land in the middle of cities that are on the ocean or in other high demand areas.

We could easily build enough homes for everyone out in the middle of nowhere. But the problem is the cost of acquiring land and building on it to get a house in a city. So you either give everyone in a city a house for free and pay all the costs yourself, or make everyone move to the middle of nowhere.

There are no other solutions.
