Nobody wants to have this conversation. There is just a huge silence regarding the impact that AI has on work. In my country there's just a huge silence regarding how much AI will replace an incredible number of jobs, plus the fact that most of the jobs left for humans won't include creativity, but just repetitive tasks that AI can't do for whatever reason, and is likely to replace us in those positions too in the future.

Is this the world we want? It's not even a parallel to the industrial revolution because until now we've simply never had access to technology capable of automatically managing a huge amount of positions across almost every industry.

Are we truly going to have the capacity to enjoy all the technological benefits AI has to offer without being utterly crushed by it's impact on employment? I mean, aren't we about to see a huge spike in unemployment? For me it's more than just the economic aspect, it's about the privilege to work, to do good work, to feel like you contribute to society by doing something that brings value to others. Work also has huge emotional and social benefits. AI is about to bring all this to an end. What are we doing about it?

Nobody wants to bring the toll of AI to the conversation. It's not just the reasons above, it's also because automation is something that a lot of people in the business world has been fantasizing about it for decades because of the ability it has to save money to companies by reducing their workforce. I mean, who doesn't want to pay less by automating all the jobs in an enterprise?

There's a silence regarding the huge role that business has in the development of AI. I honestly can't understand why nobody is talking about the need to tax AI to create a safety net for workers who are about to be fired and not able to work anymore because their job was taken by AI. The latest news are that only 13% of the billionaries are saying that they will be responsible for the damage AI may cause it's employees when it replaces a lot of positions in their companies. The behavior of tech billionares regarding workers is something that a lot of people in the world are used to. They don't think it's their responsibility to develop a system to support the workers who will be fired. In other words, they know that by automating all the positions they will save money, but that the workers who will be fired will be left to die. To summarize: they know that they are responsible for the job losses, but they will be too greedy to use their money to pay the people who will be fired to not starve to death.
