Hey guys, throwaway here. I know that snooping is a waste of time and doesn't usually end well. But here we are.

My wife got this text yesterday, it was a random number, and we both assumed that it was spam. But when we opened the picture, we were shocked to see that it was a picture of her with a guy that she works with.

This was a guy that she had met when she was working on a project last year. They had been chatting, and when she asked for my opinion, I assumed that the guy was flirting with her, but she was adamant that he was just excited because he hasn't been able to meet new people because of Covid.

Anyway, she asked me if we should report the spam to the authorities, but I was so conflicted. It was just a random picture of them smiling which apparently was taken at their company's Christmas party. I didn't know what to make of it, and I assumed that the guy who sent it was either jealous or trying to get something from my wife.

My wife has always been the type of person who is very friendly and chatty, but when I met her, she was very much a hopeless romantic. She would tell me that she would never be able to deceive me because we both share the same value of loyalty and trust.

Long story short, I decided to snoop into her email. I know, it's shitty, but I couldn't help it. It took me a couple of minutes to crack the code, but I was finally able to see her email account which apparently included her work email.

loom

The messages went on for 3 months, until my wife ended it. I don't know if they had been physical, but it did sound like they were planning to meet up. I was shocked to see that she had initiated the flirting, and that she had lied to me when she said that they were just being friendly.

I confronted her, and she cried. She said that she felt bad and that she realized that she was being inappropriate, which is why she ended it. She told me that they did meet up once, but it was just for coffee, and nothing happened between them. She swears that they never had sex, and that it was just flirting, but that she never intended to act on it.

I don't know what to do. I'm so conflicted because even though she did end it, I just can't help but wonder if she would've cheated on me if they hadn't been locked down.

We've been married for almost 10 years, and at this point, I can't even trust her word anymore. How am I supposed to believe her when she swears that it didn't go further when she had already lied to me? It feels like she's been living a double life.
