This is what being a bystander looks like.

This was my last comment about it, because I don't want to derail yet another thread.

As someone who has been a victim of sexual assault, I can say that being a bystander who testified and put the perpetrator in prison means that I have lost my complete and utter faith in humanity. It's exhausting and upseting and I can't say that I feel any better about it.

However, there is one thing that I can say: If you get involved and the victim and their family like you better for it, then you will be rewarded. You will have an ally who is forever in your corner, and they will go to their grave not forgetting about you. This reward is far more valuable than the fear of danger from a predator.

---

Every man who saw that video and thought the guy was 'really weird' but didn't intervene should feel guilty and embarrassed.

If you get physically harmed by someone who is committing a crime and you intervened due to your 'instincts', just know that you are a coward. You made the choice to not protect someone and it was wrong. You are just as guilty as the perpetrator.

If you are on a jury and you hear the testimony of the person who intervened and instead of praising them you decide to question their motives, you are part of the problem. You are just as guilty as the perpetrator.

If you get involved, and you are physically harmed, you will be compensated and it will be the right thing to do. It is never ok to hurt someone else, but it is not ok to stand by and do nothing. You were put in that situation for a reason and you have the opportunity to make a choice. Do the right thing and intervene.

There is no excuse for anyone to not intervene. Your safety is not more important than someone else's safety. Everyone deserves to be safe and if someone is not safe and you can intervene and make them safe, it is your job and your duty to do so.
