YouTube (and the Internet as a whole) was much better when people were creating content as a hobby instead of a "job"

In the "old days" of YouTube (let's say prior to 2008-2010), the majority of content creators were making content as either a hobby, a side hobby, or because of a passion for creating content for the sake of creating content. This made YouTube a really fun place where users could go to find all sorts of weird, quirky, interesting, educational, entertaining, and overall unique content. Now I'm not saying *every* creator produced awesome content, but I think we can all agree that there was something special about YouTube at that time that made it a really "cool" and entertaining place to go.

Now? It's all about the "influencers", the "content creators", and the "personalities" who all want to create "content" with the sole goal of making money. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people being able to make money off of their work. But this has created a big problem on YouTube, which is that it's a completely saturated market where it seems like every person and their mother has a channel in the hopes that they can create content, get a ton of views, and then get a ton of money. Now, I'm not saying every channel is like this, and I'm also not saying that there is anything wrong with making money. Like I said, if people want to create content *and* make a profit, that is totally fine. The problem, however, is that it seems like the attitude now is "I want to make tons of money, so I need to create some content".

As a result, we get tons of channels that are centered around an unoriginal concept (Let's Play, unboxing, vlogging, "challenges", "trollings", etc) that is only being made solely to get views and make money. And because there are so many channels like this now, it seems like there is way, way, WAY more quantity than quality. It also seems like these "content creators" don't really care about creating unique content that's centered around their passion for creating content, but rather they're creating content just because they see all the success other channels are getting and they want in on it. Now, I know not every channel is like this, and I'm not saying that there isn't still a lot of awesome content to be found on YouTube, but it just seems like YouTube isn't as special as it used to be.

Overall, I do think that the Internet as a whole used to be a lot more entertaining and fun in the past. I think we can all agree that YouTube just isn't as fun anymore like it used to be.
