"I can't believe you're a feminist, I respect women"

In a Facebook group I'm in, I posted a picture of a trans woman with the caption "I'm so tired of saying this but feminism is for women, trans women are women, and all women deserve respect. If you think you can target trans women without targeting feminists as a whole, you're out of your mind." A man, with a public profile showing out and proud support for the donald, messaged me and said "I agree that they should be respected." But then he said "I can't believe you're a feminist, I respect women." Like... yes. I am a feminist because I respect women. What does he not get about that?
