Firearm theft is getting worse

I’ve been going up to the shooting range for the past 10 years or so, and the past few months I’ve noticed an extreme uptick in the amount of firearms being stolen. I’ll hear on average at least once a week a story of someone getting their guns stolen from out of their cars. We’re talking people making their way down the line of cars opening and doors to see if they’re unlocked, then breaking into the cars with tools if they are locked.

Usually it’s people leaving their guns unlocked in their cars overnight because they are too lazy to bring them into their homes.

Another one that I see all the time is when people do a “I’ll be right back I’m just going inside for a moment” leaving their guns in the car and coming back to it being stolen.

One time I had a very close call was when I forgot to grab my pistol after shooting. The gun stole looked at me and said “oh nice gun!” right as I was grabbing it. He literally had his hand on my gun with the intent of stealing it before I even noticed.

Other than that, I’ve talked to plenty of people that have been robbed at gunpoint for their firearms and have been carjacked for them. This is getting out of hand, and thieves are getting braver and braver. I’ve even had a few friends have their houses broken into and all of their firearms stolen.

To put it simply: If you do not have a safe in your home with your firearms locked up, then you should honestly just not own a firearm. Because it is going to get stolen.

And stop leaving your damn guns in your car.
