North Dakota girl here, so not a lot of people come around, especially not in the middle of the night when most of us are sleeping, so what this man did was very very strange and spooky

I've lived in Wells County most of my life, and back when I was about 10 and in maybe 4th grade, I had a divorced father who got custody of me on the weekends. He lived in a small house just outside of a tiny town in North Dakota. needless to say, nothing ever happens in North Dakota.

Well, my dad was the kind of man who always came through for me, no matter what. He always taught me to count on myself, to be independent, and to never rely on anyone else but myself. So, I was about 10, and he had left my window unlocked that night, so that I could get out if there was a fire or other emergency. He was a volunteer fireman, and I think that's why he did that, because in case his house caught on fire while I was sleeping he could call me up and I could go outside through the window.

I thank God to this day that he did that.

So, it was around 2am in the morning, I remember that because I heard my dad's alarm go off, and it was pitch black outside. I'm laying there in my bed, when the door creaks, and I can hear a man whisper "Hello?" in a thick accent that sounded Indian or Pakistani or something. I guess he was looking for someone since he was calling out. My dad and I have both Caucasian names, so I don't know what he was doing there unless he had the wrong house. Anyways, the door creaks open into my room, and a man's face peeks in, and immediately I knew that it wasn't my father because of the way his face looked. I didn't know who it was, but I was fucking terrified. My dad had walked past my door on his way to the bathroom, and he heard me calmly say "who is that?" and he did a double take, and then I saw him throw his arms up in the air, and then he was out of sight. The next thing I heard was the front door opening, and my dad yelling "Can I help you?"

I think the man was startled because he didn't expect someone to be there. Anyways, I heard my dad go outside, and I heard the man say he was from New Jersey and that he was traveling to Oregon and he thought this was a friends house. I think my dad didn't buy it, and I know he was fucking pissed. Anyways, I heard him come back inside and he looked very angry. I heard him call the cops, and then he came into my room and asked what the hell I was thinking, and I told him I didn't want to startle the man because I was scared he would do something violent if I screamed, but I think my dad would have fucking killed the guy if he did anything to me, and then he smiled and said that probably would have happened. So yeah, my dads a bad ass. Anyways, the cops showed up, and I think the man was arrested because he was caught breaking and entering. I don't know, I was only 10 so I wasn't really paying attention. Anyways, that's my let's not meet story.

Edit: Wow, thanks for platinum, kind redditor! I never would have expected this story to get this much feedback. I'll message you my PayPal if you want, and thanks again :)
