Why are Americans so oblivious to the reality of the world around them?

So I was talking to a coworker the other day, and they were saying how them and their wife have been trying for a child, but haven't been able to. During that my boss pipes in with "well I guess you're just not meant to have one." I cannot stand this kind of thinking. First of all, my coworker is a very hard worker (not that it really makes a difference in this) but my boss is the kind of person that will chew someone out for cutting corners running a machine, even though the part is within spec and the same as how it leaves the factory. Now, I don't even see how my boss was trying to help. He knew damn well that my coworker wanted a child, so his comment was 100% pointless. Now on to my main point; the fact that my boss seems to think that it is ok to tell someone that they aren't meant to have a child. Now I am sure that there is probably a decent amount of Americans that believe like my boss does, but I don't understand why. There are a lot of people in this world that don't have anything close to the freedoms that we do. Like China, where the government forced people to have abortions because of their one child policy. Yet, there are still people in this country that think it is ok to tell someone that they aren't meant to have a child. It makes no sense to me. I wanted to ask my boss; do you know what it's like to not be able to have a child? Do you know what it's like to lose a child that you had? I doubt he has so why the hell would he tell someone that they aren't meant to have a child? Like I said; I have no problem telling my boss that he is a moron, but I don't want to risk losing my job because my boss is a douche bag.
