Why do Indians have a soft spot for Pakistanis? Why do they receive all the sympathy?

For context, the question isn't asking how some of you hate Pakistanis, I'm just asking why do Indians treat Pakistanis with so much sympathy? They on average have an extremely high amount of respect for Indians, more than other South Asians, even though Pakistan has repeatedly fucked over India.
