I see a lot of posts on Chambers of people whom have gone through traumatic experiences in their lives; be it war, rape, suicide, depression, that sort of stuff.

Usually, 50% of a comment thread consists of 'man up' and 'X can't happen to men!'.

It's annoying as all hell, and yeeah often those comments do get downvoted, but not enough to send them straight to the bottom of the list.

EDIT: Holy shit this blew up.

EDIT NO. 2: As said by u/Zap__Dannigan:

> Context is important, which it seems many people don't understand.
>
>If I tell my buddy to man up because he's scared of snakes or heights or sharks, I'm not perpetuating a harmful stereotype. We all know he's not scared of any of those things. I'm just telling him to be a little braver and face one of his many irrationally fears.
>
>If I tell him to man up because he was raped or his wife left him or he has depression, then that's an entirely different story.
>
>One is harmless, the other is harmful.
>
>It's the same with any phrase. It's not the words that are the problem.
>
>It's the context of those words.
