Most women don't like competing for a man's attention. A single man makes women uncomfortable, because it challenges the traditional gender roles women have been socialized to believe. Any man that rejects the traditional gender roles is seen as flawed, unmanly, and flawed in his own way because he doesn't want a woman by his side.
