Amazon plans to cut another 9,000 jobs, CEO Andy Jassy said in a memo to employees on Monday, citing economic uncertainty as the reason for the new round of cuts.<br><br>In the memo, Jassy wrote that the layoffs will hit the company’s cloud division AWS, its advertising business, Twitch, and other units. It was not clear when the cuts would take place.<br><br>“You’ll hear from your VPs shortly,” he wrote. “If your role has been eliminated, you will be notified by your manager via a Zoom call by the end of the day.”<br><br>Amazon had previously announced plans to cut 18,000 jobs, beginning in January.<br><br>Jassy attributed the new cuts to a changing business environment.<br><br>“As we’ve just gone through the most recent planning cycle, given the current economic uncertainty plus our growth in some areas, I’ve chosen to prioritize what matters most to customers and the long-term health of our company.”
