I used to work in sales for a company and one of the other sales guys I worked with told me about his college aged daughter coming home from a party crying.

Apparently she was "friend zoned" after a few times of hanging out with a guy and she was upset that this guy went out with another girl from her sorority (she’s in a sorority). He told me that her friend that went out with the guy was “hotter (more attractive)”. The guy said that his daughter was upset that she (his daughter) could no longer go out with the guy because it would be a violation of "girl code" (meaning she was upset that another girl in her sorority was with a guy she liked).

He told me that she kept asking him why the guy chose the other girl over her. He told me that he didn’t want to tell his daughter that the reason she was passed over for was because the other girl was more attractive. He asked me if I had any advice on how he should deal with the situation because he was at a loss for words.

So I told him that his daughter should lower her expectations and realize the fact that she isn't’ pretty. He asked what I meant so I told him that his daughter is used to a lower social status and when she gets around people who are more attractive than her, it's probably confusing for her.

So he asked for advice again and I told him maybe he should tell his daughter that the reason she got passed over by pretty much every guy she tries to hang out with is because she is a peg beneath the guys she is trying to flirt with. I told him it's probably not good for her self esteem but it may help her in the long run to realize she's not the hottest girl in the room and should probably accept the fact that she will have to lower her standards on the type of guys she dates.

He seemed to appreciate my brutal honesty and nodded in agreement with what I said and said that he would probably never tell her that but would emphasize the importance of self-respect and dignity.
