Manipulating History - A standard communist tactic

For example, communists are always quick to point out the "shortcomings" of other political/economic systems, like the treatment of Native Americans under the United States, and the short reign of fascist and Nazi Germany. They are quick to point out the hypocrisy of the United States and how they fell short of their stated ideals. Communists are also quick to point out how capitalism has "failed" when lazily managed. It's also not uncommon for them to purposefully conflate fascism and capitalism.<br><br>But what communists don't want you to do is consider the political history of the Soviet Union. In the 1920's-50's, for example, the Soviet Union was one of the world's most repressive societies. It had no freedom of speech, and citizens weren't allowed to travel abroad. It's no wonder why people flooded the Berlin wall when it opened up: they were going somewhere they had wanted to go for decades but were barred from going. Communism is very repressive, and it justifies it's repression by saying "present sacrifices for future prosperity," but it's standard operating procedure for communists to criticize capitalism for it's failures while ignoring their own. <br><br>Another thing that communists will do is try to revise history to make it fit their narratives. In their history revisionism, only the lazily managed forms of capitalism are highlighted, while successful capitalistic countries are ignored or claimed to be "imperialist" states. They are quick to claim that Scandinavian states are socialist, for example. They are also quick to point out the failures of the free market, like the 2008 financial crisis and the Great Depression, while ignoring the failures of socialism like Venezuela and China. Communists are masters of manipulating history, so beware of them when they try to revise the past to fit their narrative. <br><br>Anything else you'd like to add? Share it with the sub!
