I was fostered from 8-18. I had one on and off again foster home my whole life, but I spent most of my childhood with them. They were good to me, but they were by no means perfect.

They are a Christian family, and I am not religious at all. I was never forced to go to church or sunday school with them, but I did have to go to a couple of summer bible camps.

When I turned 18, I left the home and found my own place. They have reached out a few times to see how I am doing, but I have never been interested in a relationship with them. I am doing fine, I have a good job and am going to school, but I have no desire to really communicate with them.

A couple of weeks ago I received a call from the wife asking if I want my senior pictures back. I said no, I don’t want them. She tried to convince me by saying that “grandma prudence would want you to have it since she paid for it”. I said please burn them or destroy it.

She seemed shocked and asked me why. I told her it’s because the pictures were that of a dead girl. I don’t know who that girl is because she died a long time ago.

She asked me who I thought I was talking to in that manner and that she was just trying to be nice. I told her she was not being nice. She was trying to keep some semblance of a dead girl.

I then told her that if she was really trying to be nice, she should send me the insurance money. She said what I was asking for was tacky and that it was impossible because it had been invested years ago.

I asked her to send it to me because I am in school. She said no, and told me she would talk to me later. I said okay and hung up the phone.

I thought that was the end of it until a few days later I received a call from the husband. He seemed very upset and told me I was an AH for asking for the money. I told him it was what I am owed and that he couldn’t even send me a senior picture. He said I had no right to make such a request. I told him I did because I am legally the daughter of Prudence. He yelled at me and told me to never contact them again.

I thought I had handled the situation well, but my best friend told me I should not have asked for the money. I feel like I am NTA but my best friends opinion is making me doubt.
