I was being stalked and didn't even know it

A few years back I went on a date with some guy that my friends boyfriend knew from college. He was really nice, normal, normal looking, with a normal job. We went on a few normal dates, nothing out of the ordinary. After about three weeks of going out he really started to push to make it official. I was a bit put off it, and said I wasn't ready for it. He asked why and I was honest and said that I didn't feel a romantic connection between us. He didn't take it that well and kind of got mad, but I could see him take a deep breath and calm down and say that he understood. Said he wasn't really ready for a relationship anyway, we'll just be friends, and that was that.

I didn't hear from him for a few months, but he was friends with my friends boyfriend, so I would see him at parties or whatever, nothing out of the ordinary. I got a new job in the city, and was eating lunch at a deli one day when he walked in. I said hi, and he said "what are you doing here?" And I laughed and said, "I work nearby" And he laughed too. It was around this time that I started to feel he was around a lot. Every time I went to lunch, there he was. Every time I went to the grocery store, he was there. He worked on the other side of the city, with no grocery stores or restaurants nearby, so it was a bit strange. I didn't mention it to anyone because I didn't want to sound crazy. But then one day I was at the park, and I saw him walking around the block for the third time, so I confronted him. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was just walking around. I asked why and he said he was waiting for me to talk some sense into me. I asked what he meant and he said he wanted to be with me, but I was stubborn. That he was "trying to make me see we're meant to be".

I was honestly just shocked beyond belief. Where the hell did this come from? I told him to leave me alone and let me go about my day or else I'd call the cops. After that I didn't see him for a few months. Until my apartment was broken into. I had left the window open, and somehow he managed to find a way in through there even though we live in a high rise, and left pictures of us, and pictures of just me, from when we went on dates, and a letter saying he's been watching me, and that he knows how great we'd be together. I freaked out and called the cops, and my friends boyfriend was forced to tell them the truth of who he is, and they found him and he got a restraining order slapped on him, and they put an alarm on my window to prevent it from happening again. I didn't hear much about him after that, but my friends boyfriend said he went a little crazy after being told to leave me alone. He's still out there, and has never been caught for the break in, so I hope he's not just waiting for his chance to strike when the police aren't looking over their shoulders, because I have no doubt that he will eventually.

So, Jeffrey, lets never meet again. Hopefully someday you'll go crazy on the wrong woman, and she'll take you out with one punch.
