Does anyone have any tips about how to avoid the restock trap?

I know I’m definitely using the wrong term here but by the “restock trap” I mean when they take you to a backroom for the search and you have to wait there for a while for the police to come and you realize that you are literally sitting back there with a guard just waiting for the police to come and arrest you with no chance of getting away. I know I’ve heard that it can take the police a really long time to come but I’m just wondering if anyone has had any good luck with de-escalation after being caught to get out of it. I am aware of this problem so I usually end up just aborting the shoplift upon seeing a security guard approach me instead of waiting and getting caught, because they will always have to restock the merchandise if someone gets caught, so I just thought I’d ask to see what people’s experiences have been like.
