Our teacher loved me. My friends thought she was creepy.

In the early 2000s, I went to a small school. There was one particular teacher who was very popular and favored my friend group. She seemed nice, but also creeped me out. I thought she was trying too hard, and even my parents didn't like her too much.

One of her positive qualities was taking the time to talk to each student individually after class. I used to dread these talks, feeling like she was being too nosy and overstepping boundaries. I had to physically remove myself from her classes in order to feel comfortable.

She was one of the younger teachers, and my friends kept in touch with her after leaving middle school. We also had to stay in contact with her because she taught at my high school. I found it strange that someone my age had a teacher emailing me. She got in touch with me over the years through Facebook and even unfriended me at one point. She eventually sent a friend request months after the incident I’m about to describe.

I also worked with her husband at a local restaurant, which felt weird to me. He seemed nice, if a little awkward.

One summer evening, I went to my friends house to hang out. It was about 10 pm when I arrived, and we were just playing video games for a few hours until my parents told me it was time to go home. I left my phone on silent, so I didn't see the texts from my parents.

When I looked at my phone, I had 17 missed calls and over 100 texts from my dad asking me where I was. The last text was to get home immediately and that "they" were coming to pick me up. I panicked and tried calling my dad's phone, but the call wouldn't go through. I thought it was weird, but figured he was just worried about me being home late.

My friend was confused and asked what was going on. His phone had 17 missed calls from my father, too. I went to give my friend back his controller, but noticed that he had already turned off the console and was packing up his stuff. He said that I had to go home since "they" were coming to pick me up, but when I asked who he was referring to, he just said "you know."

I refused to leave until he told me what was going on. He finally admitted that my old teacher had been texting him. She said she was driving by his neighborhood and offered to pick me up to get some ice cream before taking me home. She told him it was important that we talk in private. He went along with it and said to give him a few hours to set up some cover story so he wouldn't be suspicious.

I knew that my teacher had ulterior motives, but my friend was confused and thought she was just being nice. He then showed me their conversation, which had been going on for a few days. She was trying to find out where I was, who I was with, and even asked if I still lived at home. I knew the situation was serious and told my friend to call my mom. He thought I was overreacting, so I had to call her myself. I called her, and she told me to go to my friends neighbors house and wait for my mom and dad to pick me up.

I went to the neighbors house and got the cops involved to make sure my friend was safe as well. My parents arrived and picked me up, and we moved to a new house a few days later.

A few days after moving, my friend told me the woman had gone to his house looking for me. She lied to his parents, saying she was my teacher in high school (she wasn't) and was handing out class schedules for the upcoming semester. She even tried to peak through their windows when they weren't looking.

The teacher in question was actually fired shortly after. She had been stalking several of her former students. My dad told me a few years later that she had been doing this for years, and they had to be careful about who she could interact with.

The whole experience left me feeling creeped out and grateful for my parents' concern for my safety. I now make a point to stay alert and be aware of my surroundings, always prioritizing safety first.
