My girlfriend won't let me buy a Tesla (25m, 26f)

We have a Hyundai SantaFe, it's been a great car, my wife loves it. But I'm a dad bod middle aged man, I want a sports car. I wanted the new M3, but it's a sad 4 banger. The Tesla Model S high performance is out of my budget. After a ton of research I think I've settled on the Tesla Model 3 Performance. I know it's technically a 4 door, but it's supposed to be fun to drive and I still get all the modern niceties. Plus it's a bit smaller so it feels like a fun car, it's not like the BMW M5 where it feels big.<br><br>I'm selling my truck for this, so it's really just a matter of ordering the Tesla. It's all above board, the money is mine. I'm not dipping into our joint savings or anything, this is what remains after selling my truck and using my own savings. <br><br>My issue though isn't that she doesn't want me to buy it, it's why. She isn't comfortable with me having a car that goes from 0-60 in 3 seconds. It makes her uncomfortable. I asked her why and she said she doesn't want me to die in a car crash. I told her that if I got into an accident I was going to die regardless of what car I was driving. That it wouldn't matter if I was going 60mph or 80mph, or if my car could go to 155mph or 200mph. Her argument was that I'd be more likely to speed in a car that can go from 0-60 in 3 seconds. And if I did speed, and hydroplaned or lost traction, I'd be going faster and there would be a higher chance of death. So to avoid that she doesn't want me to buy the car.<br><br>I love this woman, she's the most important thing in my world. But I also need something to get me through the bleak depression of aging. I'm going bald, I'm putting on the wrong kind of weight, and everything hurts. I'm not old, but I'm not young anymore. I just want something fun in my life. I feel like she wants to punish me for being old and fat and balding. I feel like I'm being grounded. I don't know how to approach this with her. She knows that I would never drive irresponsibly, I've never had a ticket or a wreck. I just don't know what to do.<br><br>&#x200B;<br><br>tldr; my wife doesn't want me to buy a fast car because she doesn't want me to die. how can I change her mind without making her feel like I don't value her feelings?<br><br>&#x200B;<br><br>Update: I showed her this thread. She read through a few of the comments and said "maybe we can compromise on the M3, it's still fun, but not as fast as the Tesla". Though she did say "you still have to sell the gun" (I have a Glock 19 that I keep in the house for protection, maybe I'll post about that in a different thread). But the gun aside, I am over the moon that I am going to have a fun car and my wife is willing to compromise. You guys are the best. Thank you all so much.
