AITA for canceling the birthday party I threw for my daughter after she got home from school? I don't regret my decision at all.

I'm not really the party type, I've always found them to be a hassle and would much rather spend a quiet night in at home.

My wife and kids know this, so they make sure to plan everything for parties.

AITA here for ruining my daughter's birthday party?

I have 2 kids, boy/girl. My son is 9, daughter is 11.

Her birthday was yesterday. It was supposed to be a big celebration for her, she was turning 11 after all.

She spent all of last week making plans, getting everything together with my wife.

They wanted me to go pick her up after school, with the surprise party set up at our home. Her best friends were going to be there, as well as some family.

I went to pick her up from school, then told her I was taking her out to eat.

She was surprised, and I told her that I wanted to spend some alone time with her before she hit her teen years.

I took her to her favorite restaurant, ordered a cake for her, and we ate and talked for 3-4 hours.

I didn't tell her I had picked up the cake for her birthday, she thought it was just part of dinner.

I took her home afterwards, and everyone was waiting in the living room with decorations, presents, and food. My wife was giving me the x look, but I just ignored her.

My daughter was very surprised, and everyone sang happy birthday.

She went straight to her friends and they started talking/playing, and I went into the kitchen to talk with my wife.

She was pissed, almost in tears. Apparently they spent all day putting everything together, cooking, setting up the decorations.

I told her that it could be kept for tomorrow, or the weekend, or whenever, it didn't matter to me.

She said that my wife was expecting a normal party for daughter's birthday, and I ruined it.

I told her that she was the one who ruined it by not telling me they were expecting a normal party.

She tried to guilt trip me by saying I ruined my daughter's birthday by taking her to her favorite restaurant and getting her a cake.

I told her to fuck off, and that I wasn't going to let her make me feel bad for taking my daughter out for one on one time.

AITA here?
