I'm sorry, but as a Yank, I find the rest of the world pretty shocking.

I traveled to Shanghai, China in Oct 2013. I was from a small town in Colorado, never left the state before. I had no idea how backwards my home was until I saw a major city in Asia. I was blown away. I couldn't get enough. I loved everything about it, the food, the people, the culture. Now I've been to Japan twice and Korea twice. I'm about to head to Thailand. I know of other Yanks that are generally afraid of leaving the country because of terrorism, etc. Don't let it hold you back. The world is fucking awesome, and I feel bad for anyone that doesn't get to see it.
