At the end of the day, what people from both sides of the political spectrum truly want is to fix societal problems. The difference lies in the way that they think it should be done. It’s important to remember that everyone ultimately wants the same thing, and understanding is a crucial part of being able to work towards that goal.

The Left think that the government should play a key role in helping to resolve issues by providing funding and assistance, whereas the Right think that the government should simply allow everyone the freedom to make their own choices, presumably with less regulation and lower taxes.

We do, however, have a large portion of the population that are working towards impeding any progress, as they profit from the lack of understanding between left and right.

It is, of course, much easier to sit back and assume that the other side are the enemy, but I believe that we should instead try to understand why those on the other side have come to the conclusions that they have, and use that understanding in order to work towards a mutual goal.

You don’t have to agree with those on the other side, but you can still respect and understand them, and it’s by doing so that we can hope to make progress.
