CMV: The vast majority of third party voters are either people who don't understand how voting works and think they are sending a message to the candidates, people who vote for third party due to personality or celebrity, or people who do it out of spite.

The vast majority of third party voters don't actually vote third party because they truly believe in the policies, they vote third party for other reasons. The most prominent is that they don't understand how voting works and think they are sending a message to the popular candidates and the political parties about what they want. This is a terrible idea and I have no clue why anyone would think this is a good thing to do. The people who vote for third party because they don't like the mainstream candidates are also usually misinformed about politics and don't know what the third party candidates actually stand for. There are a lot of people that vote third party because of personality/clickbait or because a celebrity told them to do so. There are also a lot of people who vote third party out of spite. There is a growing trend of people saying that they will vote for a third party candidate no matter what, even if that means that a candidate they dislike more wins, just to send a message. They will vote third party over voting for the mainstream candidate they dislike less because they don't want to be blamed for the mainstream candidate winning, even if their vote would be pivotal in deciding the election, they would rather send a message to the political parties and popular candidates and have a candidate they dislike more win than vote for a mainstream candidate and risk the popular candidate they voted for winning and then be blamed for voting for them if they do win.
