I’ve been a teacher for 30 years……and I hope I can make it just a little while longer.

I teach high school English in a suburban town just outside NYC. I started in 1994. I have a long way to go before retirement. I hope I can make it. I am physically and mentally exhausted already. I am dreading the start of school. I met with my team today to go over the curriculum and it’s just so much. I understand we all want the kids to succeed, but there is so much being piled on us and them. I just don’t know if I can do it anymore. I am so burnt out. I am grateful for how much support I get from parents and students. I have only had two incidents of rudeness from parents in my entire career. My students are generally great. But, ugh. It’s just getting harder and harder to keep it together.
