CMV: Supreme Court Rulings on civil rights would be different if the USA had more than two political parties, and not having a Supreme Court that can overrule laws would be better than Supreme Court with that power.

Was thinking about the history of the Supreme Court and the USA, and it seems that the Supreme Court is expected to be the strongest branch of government, and not the weakest like the constitution intended.

For instance civil rights would not have been a problem that it was in the USA if civil rights were a single political issue like it should have been, rather than a partisan political issue. Those who believed in civil rights were democrats, and those who were against it were republican. It required political compromise and the political will of the politicians to bring civil rights to USA. It was not a simple vote, but a vote of politicians in Congress who were able to vote across party line.

This is the biggest problem now, politicians are unwilling to vote across party lines on an issue that they personally may agree or disagree with. If the voters punished politicians for voting along party lines, then they might be willing to vote across party lines.

The supreme court should be able to hear cases between states, but not have the power to overrule laws passed by Congress or decided by the states (state laws).
