AITA for giving my brother’s ex wife the fixer upper house I inherited when I got married instead of letting him move in.

My grandma passed away recently. She was the matriarch of our family and even though she was very hard to live with, everyone loved her. I grew up in the city with my mom and was the apple of grandma’s eye as I am her only grandchild. She doted on me and I never lacked anything as a child. My brother grew up with her and had to endure a lot of her strictness.

I was very shocked when the will was read and she left the house to me. She left my brother her bank account which was a substantial amount. My brother and I both agreed this was fair as he has lived with grandma his whole life. The house however needed a lot of work and I was ready to just sell it and keep the money. My brother however really wanted the house. He even offered to buy it off me but my husband and I decided we would fix it up and use it as an investment property one day when we have kids of our own.

It was a great profit making venture for us but it was also a lot of work. I understand why my brother wanted it. Even though it was pretty run down the house held a lot of memories for him. I also felt bad that he had basically been cut out of grandma’s will. So when my ex sister in law reached out to me asking for help with a place to live, I offered her the house.

Apparently my brother had kicked her and their kids out when he got the inheritance. It was a shitty thing for him to do but I wasn’t surprised. My brother and his family have always relied in grandma to get them out of trouble. Now she is gone and he is in charge. My ex sil has no family to turn to and I remember how horrible it was to live with my brother. So I gave her the house with the one condition that she not tell my brother about it until after my wedding.

AITA?
