A warning from Australia.....

I'm sure many of you are aware of Biden's (GUN CONTROL) ideas, and while many of you may dismiss many of them as unconstitutional, just remember what happened here in Australia during the 1990s...

After the Port Arthur Massacre there was broad public support for a complete ban on firearms. While many believed it to be a knee-jerk reaction, it didn't stop the government and gun-control groups from pushing it forward.

They started by banning Semi-automatic weapons, they said that would be enough to stop mass shootings, but of course it didn't work and they just shifted their sights to Single-shot weapons and Pump-action firearms. Eventually they also banned Lever-action weapons and any weapons that were deemed too powerful for civilian ownership.

The government heavily stressed that an Australian without a firearm was a safer Australian, and that we should just trust the police to keep everyone safe.

Fast forward to today, and many of us here feel like we're living in a Police-state. Our laws are overly restrictive and anything you say or do can and will be used against you in court, should you ever be charged with a crime. and to top it all off, the police are not held accountable for their crimes.

We are under a nationwide lock-down due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with the government not only restricting our ability to leave our homes (Unless absolutely necessary) but also where and when we can go outside. and many of us are too afraid to protest outside due to the heavy police presence.

We just don't feel safe here anymore, and many of us are considering leaving Australia to find a safer place to live... a place with less restrictions and less of a Police-state.

So I just want to warn you guys, my friends across the ocean, to fight with everything you have to keep your rights. Don't let the government take your freedoms away from you, don't let them trick you into giving up your guns, and most importantly, don't let them convince you that you're safer without them.

Guns are not the problem, the problem is the mentally ill, there are so many people in this country and around the world who need help but don't get it, because they aren't visibly sick. They can walk into a store and buy a gun, there's no real screening for mentally ill people before they buy a weapon.

But instead of trying to help those people, the government would rather take your rights away, which is completely fucked up and enables them to gain more and more control of the people. and before you know it, you'll be living in a place like this, where the government can do as they please.

So again, fight to keep your rights, fight to keep your freedoms... we didn't and now we're suffering for it.

Sorry for the long post, I hope you guys found it informative and eye-opening.

TL;DR: A warning from Australia, don't give up your Gun rights, because when the government takes your ability to defend yourselves, They will take advantage of that and gain more control over you.

EDIT: (1) I personally do not own a firearm, I'm not really interested in hunting and target shooting.

(2) While the US has a Civil War in it's history, and Revolt against the British, remember that if the Government started to take away your rights, you won't be facing heavily armed Horsemen or men with Muskets, you'll be facing highly trained Police and Military personnel with fully automatic firearms, Grenades, and god knows what else... so it's not that simple.

(3) As someone pointed out, the government won't take away your right to vote. But they will still find ways to gain control, and they'll do it in a way where you don't see it coming.

(4) We just want you guys to be aware of this, so when the time comes when the government starts to take away your civil liberties, you'll be able to fight it. And you won't have to live in a place like we do now.

EDIT 2: I am absolutely blown away by the amount of upvotes this post has gotten, thank you all for taking the time to read it. and to those who have reached out to me via PM, thank you for your kindness.

I understand that not everyone agrees with me, and that's fine, we all have different opinions and perspectives, which is what makes this world interesting.

I would like to point out that we don't have the Right to Bear Arms in Australia, we have a plethora of laws and loopholes when it comes to gun ownership. However, we do have a Right to Freedom, but that doesn't seem to mean much anymore.

Again, thank you all for taking the time to read my post, and I'm glad I could bring attention to this issue.

FYI: Biden's website has this under Gun Safety:

"Restrict the proliferation of firearms"

"Get weapons of war off our streets"

"Ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines"

"Bans the use of ghost guns (80% lower receivers)"

"Bans the sale of assault weapons with detachable magazines"

"Ban the importation of assault weapons"

"Bans trigger and crank devices"

"Bans Blue and incomplete ghost guns"

"Bans thos that can accept a detachable magazines"

"Bans thumbhole stocks and pistol grips, which are not needed for hunting but facilitate a shooter firing from the hip in military style"

"Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) and the Gun Control Act of 1968"

"Prioritize prosecution of individuals who do not follow the above provision"

"Bans the manufacture or sale of magazines for such guns"

"Bans accessories that enable weapons to fire more than 10 rounds"

"Mandates Buybacks of magazines and weapons banned in the above section"

"Limit handgun sales to one a month"

"Repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) to reward companies that use best practices to keep their supply chains safe and responsible"

"Incentivize State “red flag” laws"

"Don’t give any Gun Manufacturer or Seller a Federal Tax Benefit for knowingly violating our gun-protective laws"

"Close the Hatch Act Loophole to stop people from using their business to buy advertisements against candidates running for Federal office and state and local offices and elections"

"Direct the US DoJ to deliver to a new, public, initial report on firearms trafficking, and the annual follow-up reports"

"Appoint a Director of the ATF and ensure the Enforcement of Gun Safety laws"

"Reverse the Trump Administration’s change to the official definition of “firing squad” (which could help the NRA in FRP v. BATF) and prevent the proliferation of “ghost guns” and “3D printed firearms”"

"Overturn the law that blocks theπλ of most nicotine e-cigarettes until or unless the FDA approves of it"

"Direct the US Surgeon General to Publicize, as soon as possible, a widely available Surgeon General’s public health advisory on the ability of youth to manage the effects of gun violence"

"Direct the US Attorney General to more widely and stiffer prosecute gun offenders and gun traffickers"

"While working in the US Senate, Hold hearings on the rise of White Supremacy and other Domestic Terrorism for the purpose of obtaining information that can be presented to the Senate in a widely available report"

He wants to do a lot more than just restrict who can buy a gun, and it seems like he wants to ban a lot of weapons, not just handguns.
