I was stalked by a mentally unstable classmate in college and I’m still freaked out about it

My freshman year I lived in the dorms. The way the dorm was set up was two people per room, and each floor was separated by gender. We had a floor in the middle that was co-ed, and a floor for the RA’s. The RA’s would have a roommate, but their job was to supervise the floor they were on.

In my first semester, one of my classes was psychology. I had it pretty early in the morning, 8:00 am to be exact. I was not a morning person and would oversleep a lot. I would always show up late to that class and disrupt the lecture.

I had a classmate, his name was Michael. One day while class was going on he was on his phone and I thought he was texting. It was actually a note-taking app, and he was typing notes out. I asked if I could see them, and he shared them with me. I didn’t have a phone at that time, it was 2018 and I had an iPod Touch.

At that time, I still lived in the dorm. I didn’t have a laptop so I would use the lab computers in the library or dorm. It was a pain to walk all the way to the library just to print out something, so I asked Michael if we could meet up in the lab and I’ll print the notes out.

Fast forward a few days, we met up in the dorm lab and I printed them out. As we were talking, he asked me if I wanted to grab some coffee with him. I agreed, and we went to the coffee shop.

The way the coffee shop was set up, it wasn’t a large coffee shop. It was a medium size room with four tables. It was located in a separate building from the dorm. It was connected to the library, and there was another way to get in through the parking lot.

We sat down and talked for about an hour, and I didn’t realize that I had spent that much time talking until I saw one of my friends. One of my friends walked in, and she waved at me and made a gesture signaling “what the hell are you doing with him?” I didn’t respond, I just waved back.

My friend waited in line, and she sat at a table near ours. She heard everything we were saying, and at one point, she got up and came over to our table. She asked me if I was okay, and I said yeah. She walked away, and when we were done with our coffee, Michael asked me if I wanted to grab lunch with him.

I had a feeling something was off but I wasn’t sure what. I said sure, and we walked to the cafeteria. We sat down, and my friend from before walked over. She asked again if I was okay, I said yes.

She walked away again and that’s when her and a few other friends surrounded us. They all asked me if I was okay, and that’s when I started to feel like something was wrong with Michael. I didn’t know what his intentions were but I didn’t want to lead him on.

I told him it was nice meeting him and everything, but I don’t think we’re a good match. He started yelling at me and my friends. He called me a bitch and a whore. He started walking towards me, and my friends said “let’s go” and we all got up and left.

I didn’t see him around after that until one day I was walking to class. He saw me and started walking towards me, so I ran into the bathroom. I waited in there for a while and he was waiting outside. I left the bathroom and ran back to my room.

This went on for a few days, all I would do was go to class, and come back to my room. I had a few friends that would come visit me, but that’s it.

One day he walked into my room. I asked him what he was doing here and he said he just wanted to talk. I said fine, but please don’t yell at me.

He started talking about how he felt like he was my only friend. He said we met in class, but he felt like we had a deeper connection. He said he saw how my friends reacted when we were talking, and he felt like they didn’t like him.

He said he felt like they were talking behind his back, and he knew they didn’t like him. He said he knows I don’t like them, and I only like him. I said that’s not true, I like them and I don’t like you.

He started yelling at me again and I got scared. I stood up and backed away slowly. He started walking towards me, and I slowly started opening the door.

He was closer and closer, and I slowly backed away from him. He got closer until he was right in my face. He leaned in close to kiss me, but I slammed the door open.

I ran out of the room and down the stairs. I didn’t stop running until I got to the RA’s room. I told them everything that happened, and they were shocked. They said they had no idea and they would look into it.

I was freaked out, so I asked if I could stay with them that night. They said of course and I stayed the night. The next day they said they would switch me to a different floor.

They moved me into a room that was supposed to be used for supplies. It had two beds in it, but they weren’t using it. I lived there until the end of the year, and I never saw Michael again until graduation.

When we were walking across the stage to get our diplomas, he was there. He smiled and waved at me, and I didn’t say anything.

I graduated in 2022, and I haven’t seen him since then.
