What if we could virtualize the brain?

I've been watching too many shows about virtualization and AI and thinking about the virtualization of the brain.

Imagine this scenario:

You are sitting in a state of the art neurotechnology lab, your body plugged into something that looks like a cross between a high-tech hospital bed and a death machine, complicated wires and sensors are affixed to various areas of your skull.

The neurotechnology lab technician is smiling reassuringly from across the room, and looking at her tablet. She gives it a few taps, sends a few texts to her labmates, and then looking at you, she says, "We're all set to begin, or so the data indicates."

A few minutes pass, and you hear a hiss of a hydraulic system somewhere. The hiss increases, and the hissing becomes intense as the room above you slides open and a white, transparent helmet comes down over your head.

A screen flickers to life in front of you, it's a tablet screen, like what the lab tech was using.

The words, "Virtualization Protocol" flash in front of you. You see the virtualization protocol is at 95%. 98%. 99%. 100%.

All of a sudden, you are somewhere else in the world. One moment you're in a lab, and the next, you're sitting in a virtual bed, virtualizing your brain.

You look around, and you're in a virtual bedroom.

You realize, you've never felt better, you've never been happier. You feel as if you've been transported to a virtual heaven.

You realize you can be anyone, do anything, be anywhere. You can travel anywhere in the world, at any time. You can travel through time if you want, forward or backwards.

You can be anyone. Do anything. Be anyone.

You have been transported to a virtual world.
