Quantum AI is not a new type of AI, it's a new type of computer that will run regular AI algorithms faster for certain problems.

I've been seeing a lot of misinformation about quantum AI. It seems like many people believe this to be some new form of intelligence that goes beyond classical computers. This is not the case. Quantum AI is just using quantum computers to run classical AI algorithms like Diffusion Models, or even the backpropagation algorithm that you use to train neural networks.

This does NOT mean however that quantum computers will not be able to run AI algorithms faster than classical computers. Remember that this is a type of computing that uses quantum mechanics in order to process information, which gives it a huge advantage in terms of speed in certain problems.

Because of this, I think that quantum computing is not going to be the next big thing in AI, it will be the next big thing in computing. You will be able to run any AI that you run on a classical computer today much faster with quantum computers, but it's just going to be a faster type of compting technology. It's not going to be used on a different type of intelligence that will develop faster for being in a quantum state.

I am not sure of all the consequences that this technology will bring to humanity, but I believe it's going to be a game changer in many areas, from simulations to cryptography, but it's not, by itself, going to lead to an intelligence explosion like many people are saying.

Edit: It is true that quantum mechanics is not just better "hardware". It can allow us to use different algorithms that rely on the properties of quantum mechanics. This is the case of the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) for example. But these algorithms are also classical algorithms, just like Diffusion Models, but they can only be run on quantum computers.

Edit 2: The part where I said "It is not going to be used on a different type of intelligence that will develop faster for being in a quantum state" was a mistake. Quantum computers can be used to run quantum-inspired AI models. There is a lot of research that is being done in this area, and this is something that I should not have ignored. Thanks for correcting me.
