Why do Western Conifer Seed Bugs have such a terrible reputation?

My interest in entomology has led me to research and follow accounts from the US and Canada that deal with insects and arachnids. Ever since I started reading about insects like the Eastern Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, Emerald Ash Borer and the Mountain Pine Beetle, I was fascinated by these insects but from afar (I'm in Italy).
One day, I discovered Western Conifer Seed Bugs, and I fell head over heels for them. They have this lovely shape, their colors are so nice and they are very interesting to learn about. I've studied them for about a year now, and I must say that I'm really passionate about them, even though I've never seen a live one (I've only had the chance to see dead specimens). They're pretty common over here in Italy, for sure.
Many Georgians (I'm from Georgia, not the American state, but the country) dislike these insects because of the way they eat the seeds of fir trees. But, Georgians aren't forest dwellers at all, we're more into agriculture than arboriculture.
As far as I know, Western Conifer Seed Bugs are also displeasing to Washingtonians, since they are known to have a rather bad reputation.
From what I've read, it seems like they are viewed as pests and are disliked more often than not, for they love to infest homes and places of residence.
But I just cannot help but love them! I hope to encounter one in person, one day.
However, I would like to ask why you (Washingtonian friends) dislike them so much. They seem rather lovely to me, but I don't live where they are as common as they are in Washington state, so perhaps Washingtonians have a totally different point of view.
