Before I begin, I will say that I support democracy and elections. They are necessary for transitioning a country from a dictatorship to a democracy. They are very useful tools in governance. But, they have their flaws.

In an election, it is expected that you take the lives of 51% of the people and ignore the 49%. From a basic human perspective, isn’t this wrong? Often people say that they should vote on their own preferences and interests. But isn’t that being selfish? Apparently, a democracy is supposed to be beneficial for the majority of the people. But what is to say of the minority? Is it fair that they are underrepresented in their own government.

In my opinion, a proper representation of the people comes from a proper representation of the people’s interests on all sides. But in an election, it’s basically the majority vs. the minority. I am beginning to realize that there is no proper representation of the people in an election.

EDIT: I support direct democracy, meritocratic technocracy and other forms of governance where underrepresented people have a greater representation of their interests.

\~kodato
