How do I get my Girlfriend to knock off this annoying habit?

Ok, so I know this might sound weird, but hear me out. My GF (we’ll just call her Lily for the sake of the story) has this really strange habit of kneeling in front of the dryer. Now, I know that doesn’t sound THAT weird, but let me set the scene. It happens out of a sudden. Imagine you’re in the middle of making dinner, and you’re putting a load of laundry in the dryer. And in the background, you can hear the soft sound of somebody whimpering in the dryer, and a low groaning noise. It’s pretty loud, and it never sounds like it’s coming from the dryer. To make things worse, the fan is always broken, so every time we put in a load of clothing, it’s a loud banging noise behind the wall. It makes it sound like a cat trapped inside a wall, and the banging makes it sound like something is scratching at the wall.

I’ve tried to talk to Lily about it, but she’s always very defensive about it, and she says that it’s nothing to worry about. But it’s started to get worse. Now she’s started doing it in the washer, too. We’ve had to call the plumber multiple times to get it unstuck, and I think she might have broken it. And when I brought it up to her, she said it was “not my concern.”

A couple nights ago, I walked into the laundry room and saw her doing it again. She was on her hands and knees in front of the washer, groaning and whimpering. I don’t know if she saw me or not, but she started doing it more loudly. She sounded like a stray cat in heat. She was scratching at the washer, and I thought she was starting to get into one of her episodes. I tried to talk to her, to bring her back to reality, but she didn’t respond. She looked up at me, and started to make these loud, piercing meows. And then she charged at me.

It was like something had taken over her body. She started scratching at my arms and neck and chest, and she was making this awful screeching noise. I had to throw her onto the floor and run out of the laundry room before she hurt me. She started pounding on the door, scratching at it and meowing loudly. I was afraid she was going to break down the door.

It’s been two days since then, and I haven’t seen her since. I’m not even sure if she’s okay. At first, I thought she had left me, but I don’t know. I feel like she’s still in the house, watching me. And that’s even scarier than if she had just left.

Somebody, PLEASE, if you have any advice, please tell me. I don’t know what to do, and I’m at my wit’s end. I feel like I’m losing her, and I don’t know how to stop it. Help.

EDIT: Wow, you guys, this is insane. I didn’t expect this to blow up like it did. Thank you all for your kindness and your advice. It seriously means a lot to me.

As for updates, Lily is staying with her parents for the time being. She won’t answer my calls or my texts, but she did say that she’s going to stay with them for the time being. I don’t really blame her. I feel awful for putting her through that, and I do hope she forgives me. I just hope she gets the help she needs.

As for the strange noises in the house? Yeah, that’s a whole different story. I haven’t heard that sound from the washer/dryer for a while, but I’ve heard plenty of other things. Doors slamming, drawers opening and closing, loud footsteps upstairs. It’s been pretty bad. I started to record it, so I can submit it to this sub. But, at this point, I really don’t know if I’m going to stay in this house. It’s just too much for me.

Again, thank you all for your support. You guys are the best.

EDIT 2: Okay, so, I’ve started hearing footsteps outside my house, and I’m getting a little worried. I don’t know if it’s Lily or not, but I’d rather not find out either way. I asked my neighbor to keep an ear out, but he hasn’t heard anything. I’ve started to hear creaks in the walls and the floorboards, and I think somebody might have gotten into the house. I know it sounds paranoid, but I don’t want to take any chances. So, I’ve set up a couple of cameras in the rooms where I’ve heard the noises. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

I’ll keep you guys posted. Hopefully I won’t need to make another update soon. Thanks for everything, and stay safe, guys.
