[USA] Has anyone encountered this tipping culture in the USA in 2024?

No I’m not American.

I spent my last weekend in Las Vegas. I’ve never been to the USA before and I’m just wondering if anyone has encountered this tipping culture in the USA in 2024, especially in Las Vegas?

I was staying in this hotel and ordered food by phone. Basically I ordered food and snacks and was told to pay with my credit card. I asked about the tips and was told that tips are 25% for credit card payment, however, I can choose to pay in cash with 15% as the tips. I’m not sure if I can add less or no tips paying in cash.

The next day, I ordered food again and got the same question from the staff about the tips and got the same options to pay in credit card with 25% tips or in cash with 15% tips. I was wondering what the hell tips for, and how much do I need to pay for the tips. Before ordering food, I asked the staff about the tipping culture in the USA. I was told that normally tips are 20-25%.

I went to a restaurant and was told that tips are 25%. I didn’t eat in the restaurant but take away and I was told that I can pay in credit card with 25% tips or pay in cash with 15% tips.

Has anyone encountered this tipping culture in the USA in 2024? I’m from a country where tipping is never expected and no one complains about the tipping. I’m wondering how much tipping in the USA is a social norm?
