Average Americans depress me

Average Americans (a population I am a part of) are just so...lost. Americans are the only people in the world I know of who have never experienced what it's like to live under an actual dictatorship. We just haven't (unless you count the United States post civil war).

Yet, despite this, the average person is so fatalistic like the United States has fallen or something. Like, even if the United States were to fall or decline tomorrow (which it won't), the average American would have about 25-30 years of decline before we hit the living standards of Portugal or Spain (nothing wrong with those places but they're not the United States).

I'm sick of people talking about decline this and that, and how my generation (30s) should just accept that things will never be better. I honestly think the collapse of the Soviet Union really did something to America's psyche. I think the average person is just afraid because the one thing they really believed would never happen happened and we have never collectively recovered from that.

Edit: Got a comment stating I was the problem. I wasn't aware refusing to be fatalistic and cynical was a problem
