One of our assignments in class is that we have to give a short 5 minute presentation. I was nervous so I decided to record myself for proof. My teacher walked by, saw what I was doing and immediately was in my personal space, hands grabbing at my arms.

She was literally 5 inches from my face, screaming "YOU DO NOT RECORD ME YOU DO NOT RECORD ME". I started freaking out and was trying to back away from her as she kept pushing into my personal space. I started to stand up and when I did she grabbed my phone, took it and put it in her desk drawer.

She started saying "You're not going to record me, you can just give me that phone". I asked her to hand it back to me multiple times and she just said "no, I'm going to take it and give it back to you when you leave the class". I again asked her to hand it back, and she said that I had to leave the classroom or she was going to write me up for being disruptive.

I asked her if I could go get campus security and she said "yeah" and turned her back on me. I left the classroom and went to get campus security and explained the situation. They said that they would go ask for my phone back and to stay outside. It was about 10 minutes before they came back out. They said that she was refusing to give them the phone back and that I should call the cops. I did and the cops showed up about another 10 minutes later.

They went inside and talked to her for about 10 minutes and she was still refusing to give them my phone back. They asked her multiple times to hand it over and she just kept refusing. One of the cops finally said "ma'am if you do not hand over that phone we will have to place you in handcuffs". She finally opened her desk drawer and handed my phone over. I thought that was it and we were going to leave but the cop asked me if I wanted to press charges and I said yes. They placed her in handcuffs and read her her rights and put her in the back of the cop car.

I thought that was it until the next day. Apparently she is suing me for harassment, assault and is demanding that I be expelled. A bunch of the other students in the class are also pissed off at me saying that she has been a great teacher and that she doesn't deserve to lose her career.

I don't understand how I'm in the wrong here. She literally took my property, put her hands on me and got in my personal space!

UPDATE: I am truly overwhelmed by the support I've gotten. Thank you to everyone who reached out. The professor has been terminated from her position and is currently under investigation. There are a hand full of students that are demanding she get her job back. I will update more when I have more information.
