Am I the only person that feels like humans suck at making AI and that that's okay?

I see a lot of people on Chambers and other places that are convinced that AI is going to take over the world. (Note: Not the subreddit. The community here is lovely.) I am confused by this sentiment. AI is still a pretty mediocre creation, like the first cars, computers, or cellphones. It takes a lot of effort to train, it's really expensive, and it does not work that well.

I have a strong feeling that this is the first time humans have ever created technology that has a lot of potential but that we have no idea how to use it, and I think that's going to be okay. Humans kind of suck at using new technology because we're dumb, but eventually we figure it out.

I also think that this is the first time in history that humans have created technology that we can't control entirely. I think we need to learn to live with the fact that we're not always going to be the smartest or most powerful thing in the room.

I feel like we should be optimistic about this, that we could potentially have a partner or a sounding board to help us make decisions. I'm sorry for rambling, but I hope that humanity will learn from this.
