They say the Singularity won't happen. What do you say then?

I had a debate with someone last night in which he claimed that AI won't destroy human society. He said that "They" are working on laws to prevent that. He's 90% sure that AI would never be more intelligent than humans, and that even if that happens, humans will always find a way to control it.<br><br>What would you say to him? I was trying to explain how AI is going to change the world, but I couldn't find the words. I was going to explain the concept of AGI, but I couldn't find the right words. I was going to say something like "Imagine a super smart human that can do anything a human can do but faster and better. This person would be better than humans in all their jobs and will do anything faster and smarter than humans. Imagine a job that is completely up to the abilities of this super smart human.". But I couldn't put my thoughts into words.<br><br>What would you say to him? What would you say to change his mind?
