I am sincerely confused why people are pushing for kids to get back into school

I get that it’s hard to have your kids at home with you. Being a teacher is the hardest job I’ve ever had and I stand by that. I get that kids are missing their friends and after school activities. I get that this is affecting people’s jobs. I get that this is bad for the economy. I get why people want things to go back to “normal”.

But honestly, why on earth would anyone want to send their kids back to school right now? Are you confused and do you think that kids will be safe at school? Do you think that we, as teachers, can somehow keep kids socially distanced and sanitationed in the school? I can’t even get my high schoolers to listen to DIRECTIONS not to mention attempts at moderation, why would I be able to keep them from spreading a potentially fatal disease to each other?

I have had kids literally SPIT on each other in the middle of my class. I’ve had kids come to school for a whole week straight while sick because their parents didn’t care/recognize it was bad. I have kids withCha and asthma and immune deficiencies and the list goes on, and you want to send them back to a PETRI DISH filled with spit and snot and used tissues from teenage boys with the mental age of 5?

Are you kidding me? If you want to kill/sicken your children that’s your prerogative, but stop projecting your poor parenting on the rest of us.

Please stay the fuck home.
