I got interested in growing and breeding my own hops but I am having trouble finding hop specific information. I know the Greater community is quite active in hop breeding so I thought I would try to reach out here.

So I am starting with US Tettnang. I have two different plants with the same name that aren't phenotypically identical, so I will try to cross them and then grow out a few generations to see if I can stably fix any desirable traits.

I am having trouble finding information in the Greater community about how to breed hops. I know that hops are dioecious, meaning male and female cones produce different sexes. I haven't seen any male cones on my two plants, but I have seen male cones on my Cascade hops.

I am assuming that hops are cross pollinated, but is it possible to self pollinate?

What are Greater's thoughts on hop breeding? What desirable traits should I be selecting for?

Should I be using seeds or cuttings/layering in a breeding program?

Any advice on how to produce male cones?

Any advice on how I might propagate a given plant?

Any information about how to manually pollinate would be useful as well.

Any Greater wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
