Do *you* read books?

None of you have ever seen *me* before, because I can't write novels or make any movies featuring myself. That's the rule. I've been around since ancient times, living in the shadows, watching the humans make their stories. <br><br>I stay out of the way and observe them. Occasionally I'll read a book, if it's one written by a human, not one of the others. I know the others do it too, because I've seen their eyes peeking out from behind the pages. <br><br>I don't hate them. I was created to be the protector of the story characters. I used to try and make sure they didn't get into trouble, but over the centuries I learned how to stay out of the way. The humans write the stories for a reason, and trying to change them is futile. <br><br>I've seen the world change, and the stories change too. I was around when the stories were told around a campfire, and now they're in written books, movies, TV and video games. But the others have never seen it. They were made for stories, to keep them safe. <br><br>I know some humans know about me, but they can't write about it. I'm the caretaker, the protector, the one who keeps the stories safe until they're written. I'm the one who's kept it all together, and ensured that stories could be told in the first place. <br><br>None of you know about me because I cannot be written about. So, I ask you, the humans. Do you read books?
