Why do gun owners always have to be the ones to compromise?

Whenever there's a mass shooting of any kind, it seems like it's always us that have to give something up. Whether it be a mag cap, a "suspicious activity" reporting system, waiting periods, etc. Why can't non gun owners have to give something up? Why do they get to keep their rights, while we have to give ours up? <br><br><br>Edit: I'd just like to add that this is purely hypothetical, and I know that the conversation isn't actually like this in real life.
