Nonuniversalism and the Afterlife

Nonuniversalism is the Christian doctrine that not all will be saved in the end (for example Origen of Alexandria believed in universalism). So heaven and hell both exist and only those who have faith in Christ will enter heaven, the others will go to hell. This means that some will be in heaven and some will be in hell for all of eternity.

From a secular philosophy of religion perspective the question is raised, "Is heaven worth it if hell exists?" If the answer is no it isn't worth it, then one could make an argument against the existence of God who would create such a place as hell. If the answer is yes it is worth it, then one could still ask if heaven is worth it if only you are in heaven but others are in hell, or if heaven is worth it if you and some other people are in heaven but others are in hell, or if heaven is worth it if everyone you know is in heaven but other people are in hell.

The conclusion of the argument is that heaven is only worth it if no one is in hell. If heaven is worth it if no one is in hell then God could create a world without hell and heaven would still be worth it.
