You start with student loans from college. Your career starts at $48,000 - $60,000. You are essentially a babysitter. The parents of your children don’t care. The administration doesn’t care. They’re all about the numbers and keeping your numbers up. You’ll work hours that are ungodly. You’ll work 50-60 hours a week, give up your weekends. You will be asked to police social media accounts to make sure your students aren’t creations of a masters of sex. Parents will blame you for everything. The kids will do as little as work as possible. You’re nothing but a babysitter. The kids are on your phone YouTube all day. The parents will accuse you of taking extra breaks. They’ll tell you people who are older than you that have worked 15-25 years should be fired because they take 15 minutes in the morning to grab coffee. You’ll be called racist, transphobic, sexist. You’ll be called racist, transphobic, sexist. Your classroom will be a bare bones classroom. You will fund everything out of your pocket for your students. You’ll eat fast food or food from the school cafeteria because there’s no time to eat lunch. You’ll come home crying. You’ll have a nervous breakdown. You won’t have a social life. You’ll date a man that’s twice your age. He’ll be a student teacher. You’ll get pregnant in 5 years. You’ll quit your job in 5 years. The parents will blame you for everything. You’ll cry yourself to sleep every night. You’ll work 60+ hours a week. You’ll have 1 vacation a year. You’ll spend your vacation crying and watching Netflix and trying to mentally recharge for the next year of your life. You’ll be a teacher. You’ll have no social life. You’ll have to leave work at 3:00 to take care of your children. You’ll do nothing but leave work at 3:00 and then come home and plan. You’ll call parents at night after you put your children to bed. You’ll have a nervous breakdown after 10 years. You’ll leave the profession after 10 years. You’ll leave the profession with 100K in student loans.
