What's up with this sudden wave of "cultural Lithuanian" BS

It's all over social media. People, mostly the young ones, saying they're "culturally Lithuanian". People of Lithuanian background that were born in other countries, sometimes even not born in Lithuania but living there, are saying they're Lithuanian but they don't have citizenship of the country. Giving their opinions here and there about Lithuania, making Lithuanian food, talking about Lithuanian traditions, having "Lithuanian" pride, and so on.

Weren't the Lithuanians the ones to call people who aren't living in Lithuania "fake Lithuanians" if they weren't born or living there? Now, when the country's going to hell, everyone's "culturally Lithuanian" and proud of the nationality, even if they don't or can't live there, and they do it shamelessly as if they're the real Lithuanians. They can be born and living in some random other European country, but still saying they're Lithuanian, even if they don't have the citizenship and maybe even don't speak the language. What's up with that?
