$15 minimum wage is just like the federally mandated speed limit. It is an arbitrary number that is set for a very narrow and very specific reason. The federally mandated speed limits were to save gas. The $15 minimum wage is to make automation look like a better option. Since the cost of automation is not getting cheaper, keeping minimum wage low just makes it easier for companies to make the choice to automate. Keeping minimum wage low actually makes jobs more insecure, because companies are not incentivized to keeping human employees.

The reason raising minimum wage is not a partisan issue is because it is not a republican/democrat issue, it is a corporate issue. The reason politicians care is because they need corporate money to run their campaigns.

If the minimum wage just keeps up with the cost of living, it would not be a disincentive to hire. "Oh, the minimum wage is too high. It makes it so expensive to hire an extra employee." This is a lie. If the cost of living goes up by 10%, then the cost of hiring an extra employee goes up by 10%, and the value of the goods/services that employee provides goes up by 10%. It all evens out.

We need to stop making corporations more money by giving them huge tax breaks. They just use that money to buy their own stock back and increase their stock value. Minimum wage should be tied to the cost of living and adjusted every year.
