The "I sleep until I hear shots fired" is a total lie.

While growing up, I though that the police, SWAT, FBI, etc always tried to find a peaceful end to situations where someone was holed up in their own home. Then I learned the police can, and will, burst into the wrong house and murder innocent people. This even happens when they don't need to enter the house at all.

I live in a small town. My house is just off the main street of this small town. One day, I'm on my front porch, minding my own business. I'm sitting in my lounger, drinking my morning coffee, and reading the news. The temperature is reasonable for Spring, and it's ever so slightly raining. All in all, this was going to be a good day.

There's a knock at the door. I ignore it, thinking it's just a friend of mine pranking me. I'm a pretty big guy, over 6 feet tall. I used to work in security, and I have had police training. After this last year of the world collapsing, I decided to buy a gun. I just happened to have my gun next to me. And, as I said, I was reading the news. This was the combination that made me survive that day. If I had skipped my morning news, or had left my weapon inside, this story would never have been written.

The news was talking about how the police had the wrong house. They had killed a family. The news even went so far as to say this had happened before, and it would likely happen again. The news also went into detail about how some police departments were moving away from the "sleep until you hear the shots fired" response. They were going towards a more active response. For some reason, these police departments felt the need to violently blow into a house when someone was doing something illegal, but not deadly. For example; growing drugs, selling counterfeit goods, etc.

I finish reading the news. I look out into the street, and see an armored vehicle coming down the road. Cars are moving out of the way. My first thought was that this was a training exercise. There was an alarm blaring from the vehicle. It stopped right in front of my house, and started ramifications over the speakers.

It was the police.

They had a warrant.

They were going to come into my house.

I realized at this moment this wasn't a training exercise, but the real thing. Funny how the brain works. When you're scared, it's best to think back to your training. When the brain is working slowly, it's best to think back to your training. But when you're on your front porch, it's best to think back to what you just read in the news.

I know that I haven't comited a crime. I know I'm not selling drugs, or anything like that. And most importantly, I remember the news saying the police had the wrong house. And, well, here they are. In front of my house.

I'm glad the speakers are so loud. That means the police are focused on the street side. I would have thought they would come at me from multiple angles. This is my chance. While they are distracted by the speakers, I move quietly around my house, into my back yard. My first thought is to get into my car, and make a break for it. I think of Rambo, driving his car away from all the cops.

I walk to my car. I start it. I drive across my yard, and try to get to the road. There's a police car waiting for me. They block my path. I'm boxed in. And, as I said, these cops were moving away from the "I sleep until I hear shots fired" protocol. The police immediately started shooting at me. So, I immediately started shooting back.

Not my finest day.

We both missed, and I drove back into my yard. We continued to exchange gunfire. They continued to miss. I continued to miss. After this went on for a long time, I started to feel a little guilty. The police were just doing their job. They were - as a collective - good, and I knew that. They were just a little overzealous this day. I didn't want to hurt them, or murder them. The situation was tense, but I didn't want to be a bad guy. And if I actually started hitting them, I think they would just murder me. I didn't want to die.

Eventually, I decided to just get out and surrender. I raised my hands, and stepped out of the car. The police yelled at me to drop the gun. I dropped the gun. They came towards me slowly, with their guns drawn.

They proceeded to beat the shit out of me. And, then they shot me.

X kaufen
