Would irish (or irish american) people be upset if I claimed I had irish heritage going back to the 1800’s but was not born in Ireland?

I’ve been told by two separate historians that my father’s side is Irish irish (Ireland) and we can trace this far back. I am not going to lie I’m so happy, even though I am Australian but I love my father’s irish roots and would love to explore more of this.

But I am worried about claiming I might irish heritage (irish blood but not 100% irish, so like 2-3 gens back) when I’m not from Ireland but more like my family moved there and we are now here in the land down under.

I hope I might get irish citizenship in the future (which I know isn’t something we should speak about this) but I am not going to lie I have an obsession with Ireland culture, especially music.

I’ve always felt more irish than anything else as my family has been irish (our name is more common in ireland) since back far back when we had 8 kids and we are all Catholics from Australia, but my mother (her side) is anglo saxon.

Not sure how I feel about this and I am hoping I can find a place where I can belong.
