Does self-awareness imply immateriality?

Marvin was a depressed android, so we can safely say he absolutely possessed *something* called self awareness. If I built you a robot, give you the instruction manual for it, and examine it together at you'd agree you're just self aware hardware.<br><br>I know there are plenty of takers for the theory of panpsychism, but they're very much in the minority. So if consciousness is just brains, even if panpsychism is true, the brain still is the seat of the highest level of consciousness as far as we know. <br><br>I guess I'm wondering then, if you believe that your brain is the seat of your consciousness, why shouldn't you believe you're just a cleverly arranged pile of matter?
